Sad News -- Oro Valley Loses Its Founding Father, James Kriegh

Jim Kreigh passed away earlier this week, on October 8. Jim was considered the father Oro Valley. He served as Town Engineer and Councilman. Most recently, Jim founded the Oro Valley Historical Society and was instrumental in having the town of Oro Valley acquire the Steam Pump Ranch. As a young baseball star, Jim signed a professional contract. He later served in the US Army. Jim was Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at the University of Arizona. In 1995 Jim discovered a meteorite-strewn field in Northwest Arizona. He worked with the University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary lab to document and study it.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Kriegh and is survived by children, Kevin Kriegh and Kathleen Buop; and grandchildren, James A., Johnathon and Amanda Kriegh and Stephanie and Sarah Buop.

A Memorial Service will be held on October 14, 2007 at 11 AM James D. Kriegh Park in Oro Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's name may be made to the Historical Society, c/o 45 W. Calle Concordia, Oro Valley, AZ.
