Wal-Mart To Scale Back US Store Expansions

You might want to read this article. At their annual meeting today, Wal-Mart announced that they are going to scale-back their US store expansion plans. Now, we're not saying what locations they plan not to build, but we can suggest a very good one: Drop out of the Oro Valley Markeplace. Please. Please. Please.

Wal-Mart is horribly Locked-in to an old Success Formula that is increasingly out of step with customer needs. As a result they have admitted their growth will slow and they are using money to manipulate EPS rather than grow. Wal-Mart had a great past, but does not look to have a good future. Your analysis of the Wal-Mart situation is very interesting. Wal-Mart has many ways to reinvent itself. Building a store using Vestar's Corporate Welfare here in Oro Valley is not one of them.
