From Oro Valley resident Alan Block...

"On split second first sight I thought mountain lion... damn! Quickly I saw it was a bobcat... whew!

I was walking alone with my camera looking for birds in the Big Wash behind our home in Arizona. The nearly always dry river bed has long stretches of gravelly paths surrounded by waist high brush. The bobcat was crossing an opening from side to side. S/he didn't see me until the sound of the camera shutter gave me away. S/he stayed for a dozen pictures, but immediately hid behind brush. This is my best shot before s/he saw me. I was about a football field's distance away. I'm guessing here, this is an animal the size of a very large dog... 18" at the shoulders, 24" at the head."
