Bits and Pieces

"The Oro Valley Police Department, Oro Valley Optimist Club and the Kyle Franks Foundation are hosting the 5th Annual Drug Awareness Day for the 5th grade students attending schools in Oro Valley and the surrounding areas. This is the day to educate our fifth graders and their parents about drug awareness and prevention. These students will be entering middle school which is the time when most drug use/ experimentation begins. This “Day in the Park” will give students strategies to use in staying drug and alcohol free, and resisting peer pressure." Regarding plans for Oro Valley's recreation paths and trails: "One idea this year is to pursue the multi-use trail connection over Overton wash to the northern end of "The Loop". There are approved funds to improve the section that runs from 1st Avenue to Steam Pump Ranch. In addition, Parks and Recreation staff will be preparing a grant request to connect the CDO linear Trail to run under Oracle Road to provide cycling / pedestrian access to Catalina State Park without crossing Oracle road. This committee will serve to promote Oro valley bike ways. Council member Snider would like to see high profile cycling events for the residents." " On April 9, 2013, the Oro Valley Police Department responded to the 13000 block of North Tom Ryans Way (Sun City). Officers were sent to the residence after receiving an emergency 911 phone call requesting a welfare check. Forced entry was made into the residence where two individuals were found deceased. The individuals are identified as Clarence R. Shaub (male, age 78) and Doris J. Shaub (female, age 76). Evidence indicates the incident is a homicide-suicide. Detectives are actively investigating."
