We understand that Mayor Hiremath has led the effort for a new intergovernmental agreement between Pima County and Oro Valley regarding the Oro Valley Library. We also understand, from several reliable sources, that it is a "good agreement".
This agreement will be voted upon at tomorrow night's town council meeting.
At the moment, we have only one "problem". It is not with the substance of the agreement, since we have not read it. It is with the process of approval.
There has been just one public meeting, two weeks ago, regarding the library. This meeting was conducted before the Intergovernmental Agreement was available. There has been no public input on the agreement. Yet, so many in our community have an interest in what happens to the management of the library.
Our suggestion to the Mayor is to hold a public hearing on the agreement, seek public input, and, if items are discovered that could make this a "great" agreement, to negotiate these further with the County.
The town and the County have several months before they must come to an agreement. There is no rush.
Since the Library is a centerpiece of our community, since so many in our community are interested in its future, we ask that the agreement be vetted before the people before it is voted upon by Council.

Superman Steve "The Trashman" Solomon To "Save The Police"
News Bulletin:
Steve "The Trashman" Solomon To "Save Your Police".
This sign implies that Solomon will "single-handedly" save the Police. It is for him and for him alone to do.
"Here I am to save the day." Most certainly he is "Superman".
Just like with his past claims, it was he, and he alone who can save the day.
"Balanced the Oro Valley Budget" (by doubling the utility tax) and "Saved Coyote Run" (after voting to kill Coyote Run) his signs proclaim!
And now, this latest claim: Elect me, Steve "The Trashman Solomon", and I will save the police.
From what, exactly, will you save them, Steve? From A management review? Wow. Now that's a scary threat! OMG!
No candidate has said at any time that they would do anything that would reduce the quality and service of our fine Police Force.
All that has been said by this blog is that a management study of the police department should be independently done because:
Sorry Superman Steve, they don't need your help.

All that has been said by this blog is that a management study of the police department should be independently done because:
- The police department budget is almost half the Oro Valley Town budget.
- There is no individual or group that works for the town that has the expertise to do this review.
- 5 members of the Oro Valley Town Council are or were endorsed by the Police Associations. The relation among them and the Police Department is far too cozy for them to be able to independently assess police operations.
- All but one other department has undergone such a review.
Sorry Superman Steve, they don't need your help.
