Thankfully, Oro Valley Council Says "No" To "Fox Watching The Hen House"

We are referring to the council voting "no" to having the "Appointed One," Steve Solomon act as liaison to the town's negotiations with the police.

As we stated, that would be like having the fox watch over the hen house. "The Appointed One" has made his position abundantly clear as it concerns the cops. Paraphrasing Solomon: "Give 'em what they want. They're cops!"

Below is the Az Star article.

OV council disagrees, takes no action on having town/public safety liaison

The Oro Valley Town Council took no action at its April 6 meeting on an item that would have appointed a member of the council to act as a liaison during negotiations between the town and public-safety employees.

The liaison would have been present at meetings with town and public-safety employees as they worked on a memorandum of understanding, which is an agreement that provides for "working conditions, wages and benefits in a consistent manner."

The council disagreed on the issue.

"It sets a bad precedent and politicizes the activity," councilman Bill Garner said.

Mayor Satish Hiremath said the presence of a council member could affect negotiations.

"When we enter a room, the scope of the conversation changes," he said.

Councilman Joe Hornat had asked for the item to be placed on the council's agenda. He said the liaison would have acted as a neutral party there to hear both sides, and not participate in negotiations.

The council took no action on the issue, but no policy currently exists preventing council to participate in the negotiation process.
