The True Persona Revealed: Satish Hiremath Is "The Tax Man"

Oro Valley's town council, led by Hizzoner Satish, "The Dentist and Small Businessman", Hiremath is running down the "tax and spend" road. In the immediate offing are an increase in the sales tax of .25% and an increase of the already outrageous utility tax to 3%; and an educational campaign led by Hiremath to convince us that more taxes are good so that Oro Valley will no longer be a "mediocre town."

Long past his days as the quiet candidate who would commit to nothing while his opponent, Mike Zinkin, talked specifics, Dr. Hiremath has obviously concluded that he knows what is best for Oro Valley.

All this while $5 million in potential spending decreases are waiting to happen, savings that would more than balance a 2011-2012 projected general fund spending shortfall of $2.6 million.

The intent of Hiremath and this counsel, with the clear exception of Council Person Bill Garner, was revealed from the March 23rd special study council session where Hizzoner pontificated about Oro Valley:

"Oro Valley is in really, really good shape. If we can just get everybody to buy into that [spending] cuts are not the way to do anything but to make the community mediocre."

"It is my intent this summer to actually start a citywide campaign and educate residents about what it is that we are trying to do for Oro Valley."

"None of us got elected to be Council Member or Mayor of a mediocre town."

Thank you, Mr. Mayor. We all appreciate your lectures. Your resounding 30 vote victory last spring and your vast experience in dentistry certainly gives you the right to tell us what is or is not a mediocre community.

Before you start, however, why not read the General Plan. That is the vision of Oro Valley. Thousands of our residents participated in its development. Have you read it?

This is what this mayor and council majority have done to make Oro Valley a mediocre community.

1. They minimized citizens' involvement on commissions and boards.
2. Oro Valley had been known for its public art - They minimized future public art.
3. They passed a new sign code reducing the aesthetic character of the town.
4. They worked hard to reward the big donors to their campaigns.
5. They have commented about and/or criticized residents' concerns during council meetings; but have never negatively commented about special interest groups' concerns.
6. They have constantly ignored citizens’ input, but continually seek the input of special interest groups.

The mayor and council will try to educate residents about what they are trying to do for Oro Valley. Remember what they have already done for our Town.

Ask good questions, but expect to be misinformed.
