Loop Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection

The Loop Taste of Chicago Restaurant, located across from Greenock Drive on Oracle Road, has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, reports the Explorer. This would be a financial reorganization of the restaurant. It is not a liquidation.

As owner Mark Rusin notes in the following email, the Loop is open for business:

"You may see an article in the Explorer today saying that The Loop has filed Chapter 11 on December 2. That is a fact and we are now in the process of reorganizing just like other major corporations have done and we should come out of this OK if it all goes as planned.

My accountant, attorneys and me are very optimistic and that is the good news.

It is no secret that we have been suffering the result of a terrible economy over the past years and the lenders have got to take less than was agreed to 4 years ago, when everything was then worth double what it is today.

That is what this is all about.

We remain "business as usual" and look forward to your continued support and us still supporting OVLoop."

There is certainly no guarantee that any financially reorganized business will survive. One thing for sure, though, and that is that Oro Valley does not need yet another empty store front.

Mayor Hiremath's Resolutions For Oro Valley In 2011

In his article published in The Explorer, Mayor Satish Hiremath enunciates what he'd like to see for Oro Valley in 2011.

It sure sounds good, especially the part where he writes:

"We want to do more, and we want to hear from our residents on ways that we can do that. Every council member is accessible — just pick up the phone and call us, or send us an e-mail at town hall."

WE must question the sincerity of the mayor when he determines he may not want a constituent to speak at "Call to the Audience" at a Council Meeting because he, the mayor, may not like what the citizen has to say.

Oro Valley Council Votes To Approve New Town Employee Organization

Only Council Member Joe Hornat had enough concerns to vote "no," as the Town Council approved a motion that would give more authority to the Town Manager.

Read about Mr. Hornat's concerns in The Explorer article.

Reorganization Of Oro Valley Volunteer Boards Is Approved

Following is from an article in The Explorer.

The council unanimously approved a series of changes to the town’s volunteer boards and commissions.

Oro Valley plans to dissolve the finance and bond committee as a standing commission.

The council also made changes to the parks and recreation advisory board. Board members will no longer have to attend and report on the meetings of other boards and commissions.

The changes would focus the board’s duties to those powers spelled out in town code.

The final change would consolidate the development review board with the art review commission. The new board would be called the conceptual design review board. Duties of the new board would include review and recommendation for council approval of conceptual site, architecture and public art plans.

The new board would also review and approve master sign programs.

Board membership would consist of seven regular voting members. At least four of the voting members would have to have experience in the fields of art, architecture, landscape architecture, planning, engineering, development or construction.

Members would serve three-year terms. They could serve up to two consecutive terms.

All board members must be Oro Valley residents.

The council plans to vote on zoning code amendments in March or April to implement the changes.

Oro Valley Council Unanimous: No Citizen Survey Expenditure

The Town Council voted unanimously not to spend as much as #20,000 for a citizen survey requested by the Finance Director, similar to the last survey done in 2008.
