Uh! Oh! Look What Phoenix Town Council Voted To Tax

Well, the big town to our north just imposed a tax on, of all things, milk, bread, and all food products.

How soon will it be that Oro Valley will follow suit. OUR ONLY CHOICE--- ELECT MIKE ZINKIN MAYOR!

Art, the second link points to the same article as the first link.

It's sad that cities are squeezing struggling families and seniors while at the same time cutting the services they depend on--all to feed the growth in government demanded by the police and fire unions.

I'll tax your feet.

What Phoenix and ANY fiscally responsible municipality should be doing is making responsible budget cuts during these times, and NOT searching for alternatives to shore up budget shortfalls for existing public services through additional taxes.

This is a serious economic downturn that will take time to work through. If that means that fewer police officers need to be hired in OV in the near future, then so be it. If that means various town departments, including OVPD, need to reduce staff sizes, then that is how it must be.

We are no longer "rolling in the money" like we used to, so we can no longer expect some of the government services we became accustomed to in times of abundance.

The answer is not to create new taxes on people to support a bloated government bureaucracy, but to sensibly reduce government budgets and services back to sustainable levels, given the new economic outlook.

Hmmm, seems to me that there were food taxes (some) enacted in California several years back; did they help? California still hasn't hit bottom and seems to be continuing to sink. Evidently those taxes just enabled them to squander some more of the peoples' money. That's government! As long as they can squeeze out more money from wherever they can they just keep on spending. Phoenix next? Us next? Me next? You next? Poor Marty (my dog), soon his treats will be eaten by the dogs of our 'masters'. Sic 'em, Marty.
