Look Who Is Telling Us How To Spend OUR Money

The Explorer reports that The Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce held a meeting this past Thursday at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort.

Basically, what came out of the meeting were the following people telling the Oro Valley Council how they could best spend the Oro Valley Taxpayer's money.

Here are the "players."

1) Dick Johnson--Former Council Member and now a member of the chamber, best known for "pushing" giveaways "down the throats" of Oro Valley, including Vestar's $23.2 million.

2) David Walsh-- Former OV Economics Development Administrator and now a VP at TREO who continues to tell the council what is best for them & us.

3) Lynn Ericksen--General Manager Hilton Resort, the ONLY hotel in Oro Valley that continues to accept a "kickback" of 2% in Oro Valley Bed Tax revenue.

4) Greg Forszt-- NPCCC Chairman and former PLANTIFF ON BEHALF OF VESTAR IN A LAWSUIT AGAINST ORO VALLEY.

In all due respect, I don't think the Oro Valley Town Council needs to take financial advice, or any advise from this group.

Explorer Reports On Oro Valley MOC & Police Substation

We previously noted the OV Council action as it pertains to the Municipal Operations Center being put on hold and plans to go ahead with a police substation at the OV Marketplace. (See May 6 post Marketplace Substation Approved--MOC Delayed

As it concerns the police substation, Council Member Al Kunisch is reported as saying:
"I think this is a win-win for the town."

We would say; "It's a win-win situation," but the winners are Vestar & the police department.

Let's not forget VESTAR IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Sure, they're giving OV a "shell" of a building for a buck a year, but there are plenty of strings attached.

For one, Vestar dictates how soon OV takes occupancy. Additionally, the cost to outfit the "shell" is approximately $264,000. That excludes annual operating costs estimated to be $17,000 by Chief Danny Sharp.

Vestar snookered the citizens of Oro Valley once with that $23.2 million giveaway. Let's not get snookered again!

One more thing. The police presently rent two facilities at a cost of almost $80,000/year. One is on Rancho Vistoso Blvd. just far enough away from that Marketplace!

Mary Snider Announces A Run For Oro Valley Council

The primary 2010 election will be held in March. Previously, Satish Hiremath announced he would run for Oro Valley Mayor.

Now Mary Snider announced she is a candidate for Town Council.

The terms of Mayor Loomis and Council Members Abbott, Carter & Kunisch end in June 2010.

We look forward to endorsing candidates that we believe will serve the citizens of Oro Valley WITHOUT any obligations to support ANY special interest group.

When we hear the list of candidates, we will endorse ONLY those we believe will follow that credo.

In the 2008 election we saw fit fit to endorse Bill Garner & Salette Latas. Bill & Salette were the only two candidate to ever win a seat in a primary election.

Here is The Explorer article on Mary Snider.
