Ten Years Too Many

Hizzoner the Mayah For Life Paul "Looney Tunes" Loomis' announcement that he will run for yet another term is bad news for Oro Valley. As noted in an Explorer article, costs per resident of running Oro Valley have increased over 2.5 times from when he took over in 1998.

It's ten years too many.

This from a Mayoral Candidate Mike Zinkin mailing:

"During the incumbent mayor's term in office, Oro Valley gave away sales and bed tax subsidies, which by 2009 were costing Oro Valley taxpayers $1.2 million per year.

We can expect the incumbent mayor's appetite for increased taxes and spending to continue. He has caused division in the most recent council by:
  • Spending an unbudgeted $11,000 for his trip to Europe
  • Voting to let Oro Valley taxpayers subsidize new development
  • Voting against suspending sales tax subsidies to developers, after such subsidies had been ruled unconstitutional
  • Raiding the town's contingency reserve funds to balance the budget, against town policy, and against the recommendations of the town manger
  • Voting against creating a volunteer Economic Development Commission
  • Voting against creating a volunteer Sustainability Commission
  • Firing without cause a dedicated, 18-year manager, which cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in severance pay and replacement costs
  • Announcing his desire to double the utility sales tax and institute a property tax"

Loomis is "Mr. Tax and Spend".

Even if you think he did a good job overseeing Oro Valley during its growth years (and we don't think he did) he is certainly not the leader for a mature, slow growth community.

Time for a change?

You think?

Loomis also thinks his experience can help to bridge some of the divides that have appeared on the council in recent months.

The above comment is from The Explorer article.

Loomis may well be "looney."

How can he "help" bridge the divides that he INTENTIONALLY orchestrated?

Loomis initiated the motion to raid our contingency fund at a Special Session on May 27, in TOTAL OPPOSITION from then,Town Manager David Andrews.

Not satisfied with that abominable act, Loomis lined up his 3 stooges, Carter, Kunisch & Abbott, and forced David Andrews out after 18 years of dedicated service at a farce of a meeting on Sept 23.

Is Loomis the man we want leading us for 4 more years? Hell NO!

Mike Zinkin will not embarrass us as Loomis has over the years.

WE MUST VOTE ZINKIN FOR MAYOR!

As usual the village idiot (guess who) has nothing to offer to the post other than empty rhetoric.

Once again we have a novice running that knows just enough to be dangerous and not enough to make clear statements.

It's real easy to throw crap against a wall just to see if something sticks. I would like for Mr. Zinkin, not some mouthpiece, to clarify the following:

1. Voting to let Oro Valley taxpayers subsidize new development.

2. Voting against suspending sales tax subsidies to developers, after such subsidies had been ruled unconstitutional.

3. Firing without cause a dedicated, 18-year manager, which cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in severance pay and replacement cost.

I can clarify item number three.

Salette Latas asked the cost of David's settlement at the Council meeting where David Andrews (forced) resigned, . The answer given was nearly $145,000.

That cost does not include the cost of replacing him.

I just learned something. The Mayor sets the Agenda for the Town Council meetings. Apparently after the article in February in the Daily Star, about the $11,000.00 trip that wan't approved, until after he returned, the Mayor decided not to discuss it further, eventhough the residents of OV wanted more information. What was the Mayor trying to hide? Is this just the tip of the iceberg? Are there other things in the past 10 years that have been hidden under wraps and gone on "behind closed doors"? This sounds like "Chicago type" politics. That is the type of local government that we residents in Oro Valley, don't need.

Traveling Dancer,

The Mayor HAD, (note the PAST TENSE), complete control over the agenda until 2004.

At that time I was new on the Town Council. It wasn't long before we all figured out this needed to change.

By a vote of the majority we changed the rules.

A council member can add any item to the agenda with a second from another member.

We also added FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS to the posted agenda's. More misery for the Mayor.

Mike Zinkin couldn't ask for a better endorsement. Cox thinks he's not worthy.

Cox, who couldn't get elected even once, now finds fault with an outstanding candidate that has a resume that is certainly worthy of serving the people of Oro Valley.

Cox can campaign for Loomis and his other good buddy Al Kunisch.

They'll both end up with Cox----as losers!

FOR A BETTER ORO VALLEY, VOTE MIKE ZINKIN FOR MAYOR!
