More trouble for the home owners.
As reported in an Az Star Net article, a judge just ruled that a TEP rate increase of 8% is “just and reasonable” and in the public interest.
The 8% relates to approximately a $7.00/month increase for the average homeowner.
As a side note, the AZ Lifestyle magazine had an article on the Naranja Park. I referenced in an earlier posting today, ex council member Dick Johnson being quoted.
I wrote:
As for the article, "the intern" accepted Johnson's claim that "the monthly cost for residents would be approximately $7.00 per household." That figure is far from being accurate.
So----I guess those of us who understand these are difficult economic times will have a decision.
What's more important, paying for the necessity of electricity, or the luxury of having a park with 42 courts & fields?
Read the bad news of the rate increase here.

Tucson Lifestyle Intern Writes An Unsubstantiated Article On Naranja Park
I called and spoke to Scott Barker, Executive Editor, to point out that an article "Park Placed?" in their Nov. 2008 issue discussing the Naranja Park Bond Issue is full of inaccuracies.
And is it any wonder. The reporter, Jennifer Richardson, who I determined was an intern who longer works there, saw fit to interview Dick Johnson, and did nothing whatsoever to verify his information.
You remember Johnson. He is a big proponent of the park, but his vote is no more important than anyone else. That was not the case when as council member Johnson, he was responsible for voting and "sticking us" with $50 million in giveaways to Vestar & other retail developers.
As for the article, "the intern" accepted Johnson's claim that "the monthly cost for residents would be approximately $7.00 per household." That figure is far from being accurate.
Johnson went on to say; "if (the bond issue) passes, the council will begin issuing authorization for construction." Who, besides Johnson knows that to be a fact?
The final two comments the "intern" accepted from Johnson was his prediction that locals will be able to enjoy this "recreational utopia by early 2011." Additionally, Johnson's last quote: "It will be a signature asset to the town."
What a Crock!
Mr. Barker had difficulty understanding my two points.
1) He shouldn't allow an intern to write a one-sided article on a contentious issue that is sent out a week prior to the election.
2) You don't allow an intern (or any reporter) to write an article without at least trying to collaborate what a (biased) person tells you.
To his credit, Barker said he'd consider printing my letter if I saw fit to write one concerning this article. I told him, by that time the election will be over, so why waste my time.
Hopefully, our voters will not "buy" Johnson's "words" and they'll vote "NO" on this "Sports Complex."
Here's the article.

Oro Valley Unveils New "Bike Patrol"
In a short 5 paragraph Oct 29 article the Explorer reporter notes that Oro Valley unveiled a new Linear Park.
For just about no cost to the taxpayers, we now have a very nice additional place to walk, jog or ride a bike.
Another point brought out in the article is the fact that Oro Valley also unveiled its new "bike patrol."
It was noted that this patrol will be working out of a new substation at the OV Marketplace. I guess it's a good idea that the bike patrol will assist Vestar's private security in patrolling the Marketplace.
After all with a Wal-Mart, a new movie complex and the soon to be new Sun-Tran bus route coming up from South Tucson, would it be at all surprising if the potential for car thefts and other crimes increase in the area.

Arroyo Grande Annexation On Oro Valley Council Agenda Nov 19
As reported in the Oct. 29 Explorer, the Oro Valley Council will have four important General Plan Amendments on the agenda at the Nov. 19 meeting.
Without question, the most important issue confronting the council and all the citizens of Oro Valley, as well as our neighbors to the north, is the status of the 14 sq. mile parcel known as Arroyo Grande
Prior to Oro Valley's potential annexation of this State Land owned parcel, a General Plan Amendment must be approved.
The question of whether OV should even attempt to annex this parcel, or leave it in the hands of Pima County is debatable. Regardless of your position, this is the time to have your voices heard.
Please read about this amendment plus the others by clicking here.

Some Good News For Oro Valley Economy
In an article in the Oct. 29 Az Star business section, they note that Roche, parent company of Oro Valley based Ventana Medical Systems plan on adding approx. 250 additional workers and expanding their existing facilities.
That is certainly good news for the economy of Oro Valley.

Conny Culver Is A Loser!
Remember Conny Culver? She was elected to the OV Council in 2004 and was a big loser in her re-election bid in 2006.
Last week, in her ill conceived letter to The Explorer, Culver saw fit to besmirch the reputation of Nancy Young Wright, our representative in the State House.
We didn't bother posting her letter for 3 reasons.
1) We knew it was full of distortions and misrepresentations, and wasn't even worthy of being printed.
2) We know Culver well enough to know that's the way she works, and that is why the voters of OV were smart enough to vote her out of office at their first opportunity.
3) We tried to stay out of the election process for the state positions being contested. (Too bad, Culver wasn't smart enough to do the same!)
We are posting the link to the Oct 29 Explorer letters that set the record straight as it concerns Nancy's tenure on the Amphi School Board. These letters are from knowledgeable, intelligent people that know the facts.
Even the two detractors that agreed with Culver, couldn't find anything more than Nancy's concern about the endangered pygmy owl.
Culver even saw fit to open her mouth again, with another letter complaining that she received a lawyer's letter as a result of her nasty filth. Too bad!
Culver had a reputation while on the council of being underhanded. We can only hope this time she won't get away with it.
