I'm sure we all recall the recent issue where the Oro Valley Council opted to allow other qualified candidates who wish to serve on the Board of Adjustment an opportunity, rather than accept the only 3 individuals that submitted applications.
Well, there was a big uproar, and in fact one of our bloggers, "Boobie-baby" who has been
inconspicuous lately, had this to say on an earlier posting:
boobie-baby said...
"Who sits on the Board of Adjustment is tiny potatoes. They hear relatively few cases, and those they hear may involve someone who wants his garage to jut out more toward the street, or who wants to build around a boulder in his back yard."
Well--at the next Board of Adjustment hearing on July 23 at 3:00PM, they'll hear a case that "ain't tiny potatoes."
Keep in mind, this board can override a town council decision.
CASE NO: OV10-08-07, Ventana Medical Systems request a variance from the allowed 36’ building height to 47’6”. Subject (parcel #219-20-8170) located at 1910 E. Innovation Park Drive, Oro Valley, AZ 85737
Don't be surprised if the individual representing Ventana is Gregg Forszt. Those of us who were in the SOVOG group (Stop Oro Valley Outrageous Giveaways) trying to stop Vestar's $23.2M giveaway, will recall the name Greg Forszt. He was Vestar's "stooge" when they needed an Oro Valley citizen to do their bidding during our Superior Court cases. SOVOG fought to allow the citizens their right to vote on these giveaways which ultimately ended up with Vestar bringing us a Wal-Mart for our $23.2M.
Just a note: The aforementioned Forszt happens to be the Chairman Elect of the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce. However, I believe we can expect the Board of Adjustment members to rule without any bias on this variance request.
One last point. The previous council which included Parish and Dankwerth recently approved a 60' hotel at Innovation Park, when the code said "no hotel," and no structure higher than 36'.

IMPORTANT NOTICE --- Oro Valley Naranja Bond Election: Submit Arguments For & Against
Most of our readers know the November 8th election will include the proposition that authorizes the Oro Valley Mayor and Council to issue bonds to fund the Naranja Park.
The approximate coss to property owners for these bonds, excluding interest payments and Maintenance and Operating costs are noted in our earlier posting, Naranja Secondary Property Tax Will Cost You PLENTY.
PLEASE NOTE: Anyone can submit an argument for or against this proposition for the booklet the voters will receive.
ARGUMENTS MUST BE 300 WORDS OR LESS AND SUBMITTED IN WRITING AND RECEIVED BY THE TOWN CLERK'S OFFICE BY 5:00 PM ON JULY 30,2008.
Inasmuch as a PAC has been formed advocating a "yes" vote on this proposition, it can be expected there will be "plenty" of "yes" arguments.
THOSE OF US THAT BELIEVE THIS PARK IS A LUXURY AND SHOULD NOT BE APPROVED, ESPECIALLY IN THESE ECONOMIC CONDITIONS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT "NO" ARGUMENTS PRIOR TO JULY 30.
Your argument may be only your opinion, or based on factual data. The only prerequisite is 300 words or less.

GRFD Opens New Fire Station In Oro Valley
The Arizona Daily Star reports that Golder Ranch Fire District ("GFRD") has opened their new fire station located at the northwest corner of La Canada Drive and Lambert Lane. The new station meets response times of five minutes or less set by the town in an area where there was no fire station before. The article notes that another new station will be forthcoming at the northwest corner of Oracle Road and East Linda Vista Blvd. in 2010.
For those of us in La Reserve, we can expect the annexation process to move forward this fall.
We would ask this question.
Will GRFD confirm that they will consistently meet the five minute or less response time for La Reserve at this time, as well as after the Linda Vista station comes on board in 2010?
We hope we can get this confirmation, certainly prior to any annexation.
