General Plan Amendments Galore!

Our friend The Zee Man noted in a recent comment that the Oro Valley web site lists six (6) proposed new General Plan Amendments that will be on future OV Council agendas.

Most of us a aware of the Arroyo Grande and Tangerine & 1st (Kai property.) These are probably the most publicized (rightfully so) but the others will certainly impact many nearby neighbors.

Inasmuch as the town is good enough to put all the info on their web site, we believe it behooves all of us to be aware of these amendments.

Quoting from Mr. McCarty's letter to The Explorer posted here earlier today: "A considerable amount of time was spent developing the comprehensive plan, now a couple of years later the council appears to be leaning toward major revisions. What has changed?"

We ask the same question.

A Disgraceful Act Perpetrated in Oro Valley

An article and photo in The Explorer (click here to see it) proves one thing--- there are thoughtless, arrogant people walking among us. Whether it was one or more individuals that saw fit to deface private property is not known. We hope the Oro Valley Police can find who was responsible and let a judge determine the penalty for defacing private property.

Higher Impact Fees? We Say, "It's About Time!"

The Explorer writes that the Oro Valley Town Council is considering raising impact fees. Just because the state legislatures bought into SAHBA's claim of hardship is no reason Oro Valley should do the same.

The home builders have been raking in millions of dollars in profits---without complaining. Now that there's a slowdown, they complain they won't be able to continue building in Oro Valley.

We say, "So be it!"

Resident Suggests County Should Take Over Oro Valley

In his letter to The Explorer, Oro Valley resident Maurice McCarty suggests it may be prudent for Pima County to take over Oro Valley.
My only comment is this: In your 13 years here, Mr. McCarty, we've never had the luxury of a council majority that will consider the rights of the people. I believe that will finally change.

County should take over Oro Valley

It’s unfortunate that at the last election we only were able to oust two of the council. Hopefully we will oust another in May.

Three down, two to go.

I think the county should consider taking over Oro Valley. I for one would vote for it.

In the 13 years I have lived here the town council has been totally out of touch with the residents and has shown an inability to act rationally. For example: a considerable amount of time was spent developing the comprehensive plan, now a couple of years later the council appears to be leaning toward major revisions. What has changed?

It’s as if children are playing a game where you get to make up the rules as you play.

Alan Dankwerth: Is It "Sour Grapes " Speaking?

The hockey fans out there are familiar with the custom after every Stanley Cup playoff game. The opposing teams line up and all members of the winning and losing teams shake hands in a tradition that shows what good sportsmanship is all about.

Why do I bring this up? Well, Alan Dankwerth, the husband of the candidate Helen, showed anything but "good sportsmanship." Might Dankwerth's letter to The Explorer be a result of his wife's last place finish in the recent primary election? The election outcome may have been the result of her dismal voting record and not the Democratic party support of Salette Latas a Democrat and Bill Garner, a registered Independent.

I guess it was fine when the Oro Valley Women's Republican Club put Mrs. Dankwerth's web site comment on their literature touting her as a worthy Republican candidate.

Dankwerth obviously thinks: "what's good for the goose is not good for the gander!"

Here's Dankwerth's letter--

Latas and Co. have injected partisanship into OV’s elections

Since its inception, Oro Valley has prided itself on conducting non-partisan elections for Town Council. That all came to an end when Latas and company blatantly collaborated with the Pima County Democratic Party and injected significant monies, phone call banks, and deliberate misinformation into the “equation.”

Recent minutes of a Sun City Democratic Club meeting included (“Mission To Be Accomplished”) the stated goal of supporting all of the Democratic candidates for office- national, state and local, presumably on the basis of party affiliation rather than ability, knowledge, preparedness, decisiveness or dedication.

Such divisiveness, which promotes political ideology above what is in the overall best interests of our town, does not bode well for the future of our citizens.

Unfortunately, we can expect that all future town elections will be pitting Republicans against Democrats now that Pandora’s Box has been opened.

Oro Valley Playing "Catch-Up" When It Comes To Development Review Fees

We think you'll find it interesting to see how far behind Oro Valley is when it comes to the Development Review Fees our town collects for new development.

Our existing fees are so low compared to Marana and Sahuarita that an escalation is not only necessary, but long overdue.

Potential General Plan Amendment Doesn't Please Residents

As we previously reported, the residents of Oro Valley are not happy that the property known as the Kai Property is being proposed for a General Plan Amendment.

Kathy Pastryk gave our readers a synopsis of the meeting last week. Click here to see her report.
