Kudos To Mary Schuh & Pima Association of Taxpayers

We just received the Pima Assoc. of Taxpayers First Edition Newsletter written by their Treasurer & Editor, Mary Schuh.

We are proud to have Mary as a friend, and whether you know it or not, she may be the best friend any of us have who call Pima County our home.

In their first issue for 2008, "PAT" talks about two issues we addressed in recent postings here.

The first is about SCR 1009, a Resolution introduced by State Senator Linda Gray which basically says "No Taxpayer Money For Lobbyists." It would give voters in November the opportunity to prohibit governments and government agencies from using taxpayer money
to lobby the Legislature.

The second issue (we just did this posting)--- addresses the issue of Golder Ranch Fire District and five other Districts including the Northwest Fire District forming a membership corp---AZ Urban Fire District Assoc (AUFDA) to do what?

LOBBY THE LEGISLATURE TO FIGHT ANY NEW TAX REDUCTION INITIATIVES!

You can contact Mary at maryoldshoe72@aol.com for more info.If you wish to be a member of "PAT" ---a non-profit, non-partisan group of concerned Pima County citizens, the dues are a very reasonable $10/single, $15/family. Doing so will help support their newsletter and allow you to read what is going on concerning your tax money.

Bill Garner Interview Sat Feb 2 @ 7:00 AM Radio 690AM

Our Oro Valley neighbor Chris DeSimone does an interview radio show "Business and Banter" every Saturday morning from 7:00 to 8:00 AM.

This past Saturday, Salette Latas was on, and having tuned in, it is obvious why she is an excellent candidate for Oro Valley Council. Salette has a firm grasp on the issues confronting our town.

Listening to Salette, solidified our awareness that her priorities are the people of Oro Valley, the environment, and her desire to have all the residents enjoy the quality of life that attracted us here in the first place.

Bill Garner will have the opportunity to be on with Chris this Saturday morning. Please listen in. We're sure you'll see why we are so enthusiastic in our support of Bill. As a young family man, we have gotten to know Bill, and his straight forward approach to the issues should be refreshing to all Oro Valley citizens.

Guess Who Is Using Our Tax Dollars To Lobby Against Us Having Lower Taxes?

The answer is The Golder Ranch Fire District.

Would you believe that none other than John Fink, Fire Chief of The Golder Ranch Fire District is the newly elected chairman of Arizona Urban Fire District Association (AUFDA). This is a group recently formed, just hired retired Apache Junction fire chief John Flynn at a salary of $30,000 ($5,000 /District) as their lobbyist. Lobby for what you ask? Read on!

Quoting Chief John Fink: "Because of slower housing market, lack of growth within the districts, tax revolt issues , effecting fire districts, initiatives being circulatedin gathering petitions to be completed by July 3 to make the November ballot, the Prop13 Initiative, this can have devastating effects on Arizona Fire Districts."

While Arizona grassroots organizations such as Prop 13 Arizona and Arizona Tax Revolt are fighting to lower the people's property tax, our Fire District---Golder Ranch is spearheading the effort to fight this.

Read about these two initiatives here and just maybe you'd like to ask the three Oro Valley incumbents what they think about this, inasmuch as they are as responsible as anyone why we are "stuck" with Golder Ranch Fire District and their exorbitant rates.

Prop 13 Arizona Initiative is a group of Arizona citizens who watched the property assessment system let speculators drive up property valuations year after year, causing unexpected and unaffordable tax increases on property owners.

Prop 13 Arizona will
1. Roll back valuations to 2003 assessed full cash value or purchase price after December 31, 2003
2. Cap total tax at 1/2 of 1% for all residential property and 1% for commercial property and land
3. Limit tax increases to 2% a year
4. Eliminate speculative assessments and the need for assessment appeals
