"Goofy," Popeye," "Daffy," "Looney Tunes" and "Fantasy Financial World"

Our Oro Valley neighbor, Dick Leonard came up with some novel nicknames for the supporters of the Naranja Park, plus the park itself. No----Dick didn't forget to put Kunisch in with this group, but he had trouble finding a suitable nickname!

Makes sense for "birds of a feather to stick together", and
these are strange birds for sure!! Anyone not in their flock are
ignored! Fly with us or you're out!!.........Speaking of these birds, and the
subject of the Town Site Boondoggle, it is obvious to me why they want to
push this issue.......These clowns want to create a stage for their own
version of Disneyworld, right here in little ole Oro Valley. Featuring, of
course, "Goofy" Gillespie, "Popeye" Parish, and our favorite, "Daffy"
Dankwerth, and, leading the parade, is our own "Loony Tunes" Loomis!!
Since the current Council is already the laughing stock around these parts,
what better stage for these crazy characters to show their talents!! While
they are at it, why not have a contest to pick the best name for this
boondoggle. I would start with "Fantasy Financial World", or maybe
"Wally-World" in honor of our "upscale shopping center" slick-of-hand
artists, who so generously contributed a fraction of our own money, which
may even pay for a few bathroom fixtures. Let's hope they put their logo
on each one, so we can show our appreciation on each visit!!

Neighbor Carol Scotti Asks: "What Is The Definition Of Open Space?"

Our Sun City neighbor Carol Scotti tried to get a definition of "Open Space." As the State Land Trust personnel didn't seem to have a satisfactory answer, perhaps some of our readers----or maybe even some Council people can help out. Here's Carol's message to "LOVE."

I attended the Oro Valley Open House meeting where the Arroyo Grande Conceptual Land Use Plan was presented. After the first few questions were addressed to the presenter, it became clear to me that a definition of "Open Space" was required to understand "what" the plan meant by this emphasized term. These were the key words in the 2000 proposition which the voters approved. The intent was to assure that any future sale/annexation of State Trust land would include a percentage of what I would venture to say the vast majority of voters thought would be "undeveloped land". Land which would allow access for wildlife, and to assure future generations would have the benefit of enjoying the natural desert environment.

I asked the presenting State land trust project managers: "What is the definition of Open Space?"
Their reply was: "We have no definition." This shocked me, and caused a stir of surprise in the audience. Without a definition going forward with this plan will mean our Town council and developers will supply the definition. This could be, for example, on an 80/20 high density section, a big box store with a parking lot defining the open space.

I have been distraught over this either naivete, stupidity, or devious purposeful lack of definition, but don't know how most effectively to make this issue recognized.

An Open Invitation From Our New Representative Nancy Young Wright

It has been an interesting and hectic week. I was sworn in Tuesday by Chief Justice Ruth McGregor with my husband Allen and daughter Kelsey at my side. Friends from LD 26 were in the audience. The rest of the week has been occupied with budget hearings, paperwork, and visits from folks from all over. Committee meetings were suspended last week due to the budget discussions. They will resume this week. I have been placed on the Health and Public Institutions committees, which are the two that former Rep. Lena Saradnik served on.

It is clear that everyone at the Capitol truly enjoyed working with Lena and that they miss her greatly. To a person, from Security guard to fellow legislators, she was greatly respected. Thanks once again to Lena for her excellent work on our behalf.

Below is contact information for the office. Please call or email me with your thoughts and concerns, and please let me know if you would like to be a guest on the floor. I would very much enjoy having you visit and look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Rep. Young Wright

Our Friend & Oro Valley Neighbor Phil Richardson Addresses Naranja Park Issue

Phil is a friend I hold in high esteem. He is one of the residents who didn't come to Oro Valley: Oro Valley came to him, as part of a hostile annexation, with promises made, but promises not kept.

Thanks for fighting for your, and our Constitutional Rights. Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press (including the modern electronic media) are unique blessings first gained for we Americans 230 years ago - even if they are used by politicians to pervert (spin) positions they once held.

Take the phrase: "No Property Taxes." We are reminded three times per year what this often broken promise means - once when we get the notice of assessment, once when we get the Property Tax Statement and once when we pay it.

We have noted of late a change in the lexicon of some of our Oro Valley Politicians. The pledge has now been changed to: "No PRIMARY Property Tax.”

Will it ease the pain if you get your annual tax bill from the Pima County Treasurer and for the next 25-30 years “Naranja Park-Secondary” is listed on line four?

Let's not discuss the cost of the army of people that will be needed to administer and maintain a facility the size of the proposed Naranja Park.

Once upon a time, former Council Member Culver and current Council Member Dankwerth came to our home - in an effort to pour a healing balm on we "draftees.” This was following a heated, hostile annexation of our Suffolk Hills neighborhood. At that friendly exploratory visit, it was explained to them that there was no sort of small park nearby where families could take their children. A tiny park would go a long way toward healing much bitterness about the way in which the annexation of our homes was achieved. What we envisioned was not grandiose. A playground, perhaps a basketball court, a few picnic tables within reasonable walking distance. I offered to help raise half of the cost of outfitting it.

We were underwhelmed by the response we got: The politicas pled poverty.

I rush to say that none of us in the “southern precincts” below the CDO wash deny the prettiest town anywhere a beautiful park, but does it have to so BIG – 80-million dollars big to start with? At least one Council Member, Deputy Parish, wishes we could be burdened with $150-million dollars of tax debt! This is in agreement with the Mayor’s expansive plans, but he is not up re-election, while Parish is.

We are thankful that the incumbents apparently did not want to have voters going to the polls with this mammoth bond-payoff hanging over the voting booth. This will give the newly elected council members and those who remain sufficient time to scale-down the initial cost of the park for which so many have waited so long.

Phil "Barney Wetstone" Richardson.

PS: We sure have an enterprising, conscientious, freewheeling and apparently independent Town Clerk and Town Attorney don't we? - Just checking to see who is in charge here.
