On Jan 14, we noted the Oro Valley Council would vote for a new Vice Mayor through Dec 2008.
The position rotates, and to date, every member has served in this position with the exception of KC Carter, now serving his constituents for his 2nd term and 3rd year in office, and Al Kunisch, in his first year.
At the Jan 16 meeting, Paula Abbott nominated KC. Not surprising, Helen Dankwerth nominated Kunisch. Also not surprising was the final vote.
Incumbents, seeking re-election in March, Dankwerth, Terry Parish & Barry Gillaspie were joined by Kunisch & Mayor Loomis and voted for Kunisch.
Only Paula Abbott would join KC in voting for the "people's friend" KC Carter.
It was a prime example of having Petty Politics Prevail. It was a "slap in the face" to KC, and a "slap in face" to all the citizens who believe in common decency.
For all the thousands of Oro Valley residents that KC has gone to bat for, I hope you all remember this vote.
KC was there for the folks in Sun City whose homes were considered to be in a flood plain. KC was there for us when the 3 incumbents voted to let GRFD annex town hall, which is costing thousands of us dearly in fire protection costs. KC was there when these 3 decided that a multi billion dollar pharmaceutical company was worthy of a $360,000 construction tax rebate. KC was there when these 3 allowed a 60 foot hotel when no hotel at all was permitted. KC was there when the tax on our gas, water and electric bills was pushed through by Dankwerth & Parish, KC is there for us when the others are talking about a property tax.
There are more issues where KC was on the side of the people, while the "developer friendly Council Members" turned their back on us.
If this vote offended you as it did me----remember the pettiness of Dankwerth, Parish & Gillaspie when you cast your vote in the upcoming election.
Let these three know, petty politics will not prevail in Oro Valley!
KC Carter deserves better than those that treat him with such disdain. KC deserves nothing but our utmost respect, admiration and gratitude.
I for one, know how committed KC is to the people of Oro Valley. That vote was very hurtful to such a caring person. Don't let them get away with it. It's just not fair.

Az Star Reports On Free-Speech Fight In Oro Valley
As we noted yesterday, Az Star reporter Lourdes Medrano's story is all about Oro Valley personnel telling me I must form a Political Committee as a result of my endorsement of Bill Garner & Salette Latas for Town Council.
Utilizing the graciousness of Clint Bolick, with the blessing of his Board of Directors, the prestigious Goldwater Institute Center For Constitutional Litigation was, and is willing to take legal action on my behalf against Oro Valley if necessary. Mr. Bolick is quoted in the article stating: "The clear intent of the town was to silence political opposition."
Please read Ms. Medrano's excellent article here.

On a personal note, I want to thank the few people who knew about the town's action against me, and gave me the impetus to stand up for my Freedom of Speech Rights. Even more so, I am extremely grateful to Mr. Bolick and the Goldwater Institute for their outstanding support.
