Could The Oro Valley Marketplace Have Another "Drop Out?"

Following is an edited excerpt from a July 13 Az Star Business section article which states:

"Promises of coming businesses remain unfulfilled as weak economy and slowdown in sales has chains reining in their expansion plans."

One example the article discusses is Dick's Sporting Goods

Pittsburgh-based Dick's Sporting Goods, which is coming to Oro Valley Marketplace, is an example of a new retailer that is supposed to make an appearance in 2008 but is a no-show so far. The retailer provided not much response to inquiries about the new location, a signal that they may not be planning to open any time soon.

"A Dick's Sporting Goods spokeswoman, Kathy Schrenker, said Dick's policy is not to comment on future stores. Calls and e-mails to a leasing director for Phoenix-based Vestar Development Co., developer of Oro Valley Marketplace at North Oracle and West Tangerine roads, were not returned. A Vestar marketing manager said the project leaders were too busy to respond."

Oh yeah! Let's not forget another listed retailer at the Marketplace is Linens 'n Things. Inasmuch as they recently declared Chapter 11, they may be a "no show."

We may have to wait a little longer to see all that sales tax revenue Vestar promised us. You know----the $65,000,000 over 20 years. We all know Vestar is good at keeping their word, so there's probably no need to worry! Yeah, sure!!!

So Vestar is too busy to return phone calls.Yeah Right

Vestar is busy getting that super Wal Mart ready as that is the only hope for Vestar to collect their "share" of our tax money.

Why can't we get an answer or update from Vestar or David Malin about the Corritore co. Vestar hired Corritore to bring in some nicer stores to Oro Valley.
Guess that failed.

This is getting more dismal as time goes on.

Vestargate!

I think it is time for our town council and town manager to request an update from Vestar.
An update is the least that Vestar and Dsvid Malin could do .
For Vestar and David Malin to ignore or deny a request would be so arrogant , considering the amount of money 23.2 million that they are making on this "deal"

I agree. The Council should request an update. Vestar promised to keep us updated but they never did and now they claim they're "too busy."

I would also like to know what happened with their deal to have Corritore bring in some upscale stores.

Granted, the poor economy right now is not Vestar's fault, so it wouldn't be their fault if some stores are forced to back out, but they could at least let us know what is transpiring. All we ever hear from them is what is happening with Wal-Mart. Nothing ever seems to impact THAT store! Cockroaches and Wal-Mart...apparently the only two things that will still be thriving after a nuclear holocaust. Not surprising since they are one in the same.

With this new council, we have enough votes now to pass a resolution on this issue. Or they could just instruct the town staff to bring Malin in for an update.

Salette, Bill, Barry? Whaddaya say?

I would still love to see Malin give a presentation before the town with a Q&A session afterwards. They'll claim they don't have the time. Funny how they had plenty of time to give presentations when they were trying to sell the project.

This is just more lies from Vestar. And we shouldn't let them get away with it.

An update is in order and overdue.

Since there is a money 'sharing'
deal, there must be an information sharing deal, too! They demanded a 'partnership' now let them ACT like a 'partner'.

Someone at Vestar is going to take the blame for this ill conceived shopping center and all fingers at Vestar will point at Malin.
I would not be surprised to hear that Malin has left Vestar and is selling swamp land in Florida.
