Interesting. Most of the idea's sound nice. Maybe they could include a small area with a nice restaurant and a maybe a few upscale stores. Please no developers like Vestar and no chain restaurants on this property. Nice place to visit, eat and releax.
If there was space could there possibly be an all purpose building on the grounds that could be used for rentals for parties, weddings, meetings. Would hate to see this turn into something too commercial.
"As currently envisioned, the restoration alone could top $8.4 million.
"...some council members have grown apprehensive about the plans.
"'...how do we control the level of expectations people have and what can we deliver?' Councilman Terry Parish said the day after the meeting [that he didn't attend]."
So Parish is worried about spending $8.4 million, some of which can come from county bonds and state grants, to restore a unique, historic treasure that will increase tourism and provide educational and recreational opportunities for our residents, but he wants us to pass a property tax to pay for a $154 million theme park??? Huh??
"'Steam Pump Ranch has always been a center of commerce,' Parish said. 'Why shouldn’t it be a site the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce could lease?'"
Does Parish really believe that cowboys in the 1880s or tourists in the 1940s visited the ranch and were greeted by real estate and insurance agents handing out business cards?
Trail rides, yes. Farmers' market, yes. Cowboy music festivals? Sure, why not? New offices built for Parish's buddies at the Chamber? No way.
Oh, and I love how the Oro Valley Historical Society doesn't want to help run the place, but I'm sure they'd love some free office space.
It is obvious to most of us that Parish is confused, at best, about the future vision or direction the Town of Oro Valley should take.
His vision has been compromised by the lure of big developer money and associations with "big and powerful" people (as Parish so stives to be one of the "big and powerful" without concern of substance or morals).
Parish is no longer objective and is just a puppet for Malin, Maes, Vistoso Partners, Vestar, SAHBA, Chamber of Commerce, Realtors..and the list goes on and on...No where in this list is you and I, the citizens of Oro Valley.
This just makes the case that we need someone in council that can say "no" to the slick developers and isn't romanced by glossy postcards, power, money and favors.
