Bill Garner Announces His Candidacy For Oro Valley Council

A young family man who we are pleased to have as a friend, has given us the privilege of announcing his candidacy for Oro Valley Council.

His name is WILLIAM (BILL) GARNER.

Bill, with the blessing of his beautiful wife, Darlene is ready, willing, and able to serve our community as an Oro Valley Council Member.

Along with previous announced candidate, Salette Latas, Oro Valley now has two well qualified people willing to take on the responsibility of serving. We know they both are concerned about the people, the environment, and the quality of life that brought us all to this area. Remember, the election is now only 8 short months away. It's not too early to remember to vote for Bill & Salette.

The following is a brief bio about Bill, his family, his job and his qualifications.

"William (Bill) Garner has been an Oro Valley resident since September 2004. He resides in the Wildridge sub-division, where he served two years as home owner association treasurer. Bill is married to his wife Darlene and has two daughters, Jennifer who is four and Abbey who is 8 months old. He is active in the community serving on the Oro Valley Citizens Corps Council, a position held for two years. He is also active with the Pima College Emergency Services Institute where he serves as an instructor for Basic Emergency Medical Technician's training as well as CPR. Bill maintains certifications as an Arizona Emergency Medical Technician as well as a National Certified Emergency Medical Technician. Prior to moving to Arizona, Bill served as the Emergency Management Director for his local community for 4 years, as well as volunteering as a fire fighter and emergency medical technician. He is currently employed as a clinical research associate for Merck Pharmaceuticals and has been with them for a total of 18 years, serving in various positions while working on the East Coast. He has attended the Oro Valley Police Department's Citizens Police Academy and plans on attended the Oro Valley Citizens Planning Institute in the Fall."

More From Az Star On Tangerine "Pole Issue"

On Aug 2, we posted an item advising, once again the Oro Valley Town Council held off on a decision on what to do concerning the issue of new power lines on Tangerine: "Up or Down? That is the Question"

The Arizona Daily Star reports that an outside consulting firm estimates the difference between TEP's cost for above ground poles is $262,587. Underground lines would cost an estimated $696,000.

What to do is still the question. If the town is to stay true to the ordinance of ONLY underground lines, a dollar amount of $433,413 will have to be found.

Az Star Reports On New Oro Valley Commercial Growth

Arizona Daily Star reporter Danielle Sottosanti's report in today's online edition points out what and which new retailers are confirmed for new Oro Valley retail developments. It's nice to note that the Steinway Gallery will be coming to Steam Pump Village, and along with it, the outdoor amphitheater.
