Boycott Oro Valley Marketplace With Wal-Mart!

Vestar promised the people of Oro Valley the "moon." Instead, we're getting is a 24/7 Wal-Mart Super Center.

Is it any wonder why the citizen's group OV1st.com is asking us all to boycott the Oro Valley Marketplace?

"Taxpayers Should Be Fed Up With Giveaways To Developers"

The title of this posting is the headline of an "Arizona Citizen Online" article written by Robert Robb. The author notes:

"Why should you [the taxpayer] pay more when the city has allowed fat-cat developers and retailers to pay less than their fair share?"

Many Oro Valley citizens are asking the same, exact question!

OV Neighbor's letter to AZ Star Re: Vestar

Arizona passed a law stating that when cities offer incentives to developers, a third party must confirm the development would not proceed without the incentive.

In Vestar's advertisements promoting passage of Question 2 (the referendum to approve the sales tax rebate incentive) they stated: "Despite what misinformed opponents say, Oro Valley Marketplace will not happen without passage of Question 2." It is too bad this state law was not in effect when the town of Oro Valley and Vestar Development Company first proposed the $23.2 million sales tax rebate."

The residents of Oro Valley took Vestar at their word that they would provide "an extraordinary shopping experience with unique, standout shops." Instead, they are giving us Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Olive Garden, etc. Why should we believe that they would have not proceeded without the incentive?
