Last week's "Question of the Week" asked about the fact that the GRFD, with or without annexing communities in Oro Valley, are charging a much higher rate than that previously charged to those of us that subscribed to the Rural-Metro Fire Service.
Although the merger of the two entities did not affect all Oro Valley property owners, those who had their rates double, in many cases, without any viable choices seemed to be quite chagrined, as indicated by the responses we received.
The higher cost is the consequence of a decision made by council members Dankwert, Gillaspie, and Parish. Rather than opting for a competitive, less expensive solution, they opted for a more expensive solution: Same coverage; much higher cost. And many are now paying for it.
