Many of our readers either know Jeff & Salette Latas, or possibly only recognize the names, as Jeff was a recent candidate for the US Congress, and Salette is currently a candidate for the Oro Valley Town Council. Certainly, these two ex-military parents should be proud of their accomplishments, but there's more. Rightfully, they are most proud of their war hero son Jesse.
On July 29, Jesse succumbed to his four year battle of fighting a recurrence of childhood leukemia.
Blake Morlock has written a wonderful story about Jesse and his outstanding courage in the Aug 17 Tucson Citizen. Click here to read it.
KGUN9 recently did a story on Jesse. Please View it courtesy of Youtube.com
We thought our readers would want to read and listen, and for those who may not be aware, to learn what a great young man Jesse was. What a terrible loss for his family, and our community.
Also- you may want to take a few moments to watch the short video Salette allowed us to post. It commemorates Jesse's all too short, but full life. View it by clicking here.

As one who has experienced the tragic, untimely death of a child, putting words to what is surely the most unspeakable of life's losses, I grieve with you.
I too have lost my child.
There are few, if any, events in life as traumatic, heart-wrenching, and emotionally crushing.
"When he shall die
Take him and cut him in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun".
- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet
(Juliet at III, ii)
Jody,
From this English major, thank you for your kind comments, and my deepest condolences for the loss of your child.
Here is Jesse's favorite Shakespeare quote:
" We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
- William Shakespeare, Henry V, Act 4, Scene 3
