Last night, after much discussion, the Oro Valley Town Council unanimously voted to no longer give retail developers sales tax incentives, like that given to Vestar. However, Mayor Paul Loomis pointed out that this action can be superseded in the future by this, or any other town council. So, was the whole issue only a prelude to the upcoming election?
Was it election time politics? You tell me. Or better yet, take advantage of the Oro Valley Audio Streaming and listen to the discussion. You may find two comments quite interesting. One was Dankwerth rushing to 2nd a motion that the mayor pointed out, hadn't even been made. The other was Councilmember Terry Parish stating----with no retort: "Helen, you're just arguing against yourself!"
On two occasions, Vice Mayor Dankwerth saw fit to state she was against these incentives from the very beginning, and went on to say, "This is not "election time politics."
Mrs Dankwerth is being totally disingenuous with these comments. Her words are meaningless. Her actions and her votes speak louder than any of her words.
As far back as 2004, KC Carter & Paula Abbott tried to put a stop to these incentives, only to be rebuffed by the likes of Dankwerth & Mayor Loomis.
As reported in the Dec 14, 2004 Explorer, KC Carter tried in vain to put a stop to these incentives. A short excerpt from the article says it all. We quote it, as follows:
"The motion failed 3-3 with Mayor Paul Loomis and council members Conny Culver and Helen Dankwerth opposed".
Dankwerth's actions and votes are what's important. It's getting time for her to join Culver on the sidelines!
