Want To Save Money? Stop Using Water!

Inasmuch as the Oro Valley Town Council will be discussing, and quite probably voting to increase the "Potable Water Fees"--- that's the water you use to shower, wash dishes, use on your drip system, etc---we got to thinking:

How many of our residents actually read their utility bills? Well, in case you don't, you're probably better off.

You see, as of April 1, 2007, after pushing, and pushing and pushing, Council Member Helen Dankwerth finally convinced Al Kunisch to join with her and Mayor Loomis & Terry Parish, to impose a 2% tax on our water bills. Also--in case you didn't notice, this tax was also imposed on a couple of other items we probably should also stop using: Gas & Electric!

And how about this? Did you all know that the OV Water Utility bill includes the SW Sewer bill?
Most of you probably knew this, but did you know the sewer bill is based on your water consumption, not the water that goes into the SW Sewer system. So---if you own a pool and lose water due to evaporation, SW Sewer still charges you. If you water your shrubs with water that soaks into the ground, SW Sewer still charges you. And guess what?

Look here

Increase of Sewer User Fees - Effective July 1, 2007

On May 1, 2007, the Pima County Board of Supervisors authorized an 6% increase in the Sewer User Fee. This rate increase will increase the monthly sewer bill for the average residential sewer customer (for 10 ccf) by $.80, raising it from $18.98/month to $19.78/month.

Sure---we all know about inflation, but we also know it is unconscionable to exacerbate a bad situation by making it worse, So, for those Council Members who voted for the increase in the Utility Tax----we won't forget!

Oh yeah! Let's not forget a TEP rate increase of up to 23% is on the horizon. Is it any wonder, more and more residents are finding it difficult living (surviving) in Oro Valley?

But---- There is GOOD News! Only 9 more months until a new Town Council election, for 3 seats.

We, the people of Oro Valley, are getting killed with all of these increases in public utility costs. We are not talking luxuries. We're talking the costs of necessities. And it hits us all, whether you own a home or live in an apartment.

We simply must put a stop to this foolishness, one step at a time.
