Our good friend and candidate for the next Oro Valley Town Council, Salette Latas, was written up in the Arizoan Daily Star June 30, "Political Notebook" column.

"Salette makes her move"
During Jeff Latas' unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in Congressional District 8 last year, wife Salette was a key part of his progressive pitch. Salette became known for her passionate talks with voters about Iraq — as a mother of a soldier, she talked about the issue in a sobering first-hand kind of way. At the time, some Democratic observers wondered: Why isn't Salette running for office? Well, now she is. Salette Latas is seeking a Town Council seat in Oro Valley, where she has been increasingly politically active. The election is not until next year, but Latas has gotten a head start on campaigning. Her main issue: Giveaways to big-box retailers.
"I think, in general, there's a perception in Oro Valley that the current council is out of touch," she said in a recent interview with Notebook. The three incumbents in seats that will be open this election are Barry Gillaspie, Helen Dank-werth and Terry Parish. Politically, Oro Valley tends a lean more to the right than to the left. And Latas has been vocal about her political views on national issues. She doesn't expect that, though, to impact her chances in a council contest, which is a nonpartisan race."

Thank You to Salette Latas for caring
enough to seek office.
Change is sometimes good and a change
that would have the people being represented by a majority of the council would be welcomed by me!
For the record I am one of "those" people, an Independent voter.
We appreciate your taking the time from your life to devote time to our community.
In addition to trying to stop the "tax give-aways" please analyze the workings of the Planning and Zoning Department of the Town of Oro Valley!
