We're not sure how many of our readers are familiar with the name Bob Kovitz. Up until last week, Mr. Kovitz spent the last six years as Oro Valley's spokesman.
We don't know all of Kovitz's job responsibilities, other than saying nice things about Oro Valley, and writing our mayor's speeches, but, the thing we find, somewhat incredulous, is his replacement. You see, "his replacement," is not an individual, but a company. Not any company, but a company who calls some of the following, their clients.
Tucson-based The Caliber Group Inc. is now handling the town's public relations.
Some of Caliber's current clients:
Bourne Partners,
Clear Channel Outdoor Company,
Commerce Bank of Arizona
Diamond Ventures, Inc.
Tucson Association of REALTORS®
Splendido/Mather LifeWays
You might recognize a couple of names from this "elite" list.
Bourne Partners, for example-----the recipient of one of Oro Valley's "giveaways," who brought us the strip mall at Oracle & Magee.
Splendido----the wonderful assisted living facility on Rancho Vistoso Blvd----whose 4 story structure blocks the mountain views for any number of their neighbors.
Diamond Ventures---One of the early recipients of Oro Valley "generosity," as they are the Steampump Village people bringing us the long awaited Steinway Gallery.
Should be interesting when The Caliber Group does PR for the next recipient of Oro Valley giveaways, who happen to be their client.
You have to wonder what kind of spin we'll see then.
Gee, Bob, guess you never knew how valuable you were to Oro Valley the last six years. After all, it's taking a who public relations firm to replace you.
We're sure, however, it's well within our budget!

Oro Valley finds yet another way to waste money. A PR company? Worse, one that is in deep with the developers. Hey, check out how much the town spends on "consultants". PLENTY.
And they want a property tax?
Better yet: First clean house.
Yeah, I'm flattered.
Bob
BOB-We're also "flattered" that you're a reader. Once you formally leave town hall, we hope you'll continue to read---and comment.
Who knows, you may even feel free to agree with a lot of what we have to say----once you become "free" to be "your own spokeperson!"!
Art
Good Luck to You Bob K.
Personally I like the idea of a real live human being being our Spokesperson.
This all sounds too phony & sterile using a pr firm.
As part of my responsibilities, I monitored all blogs regularly.
It's not my intention to be a contributor to this site, but not because I disagree or agree with any of the opinions here. I leave behind many, many good friends--in the community and at Town Hall. I would never do anything that would bring discredit to me or discomfort to them. I'm sure that everyone will understand.
So whatever happened to the Steinway piano store and performing arts plaza? It was supposed to be completed by Christmas 2005! And now all we're hearing about is a property tax and bond for a $31-million performing arts center at Naranja Town Site. What gives?
I get such a kick out of those who throw the term "developers" around as if it was a disease.
Every home is there because of a developer and/or builder. The "locally owned" and not locally owned store in which you shop is there because of a developer. Most of the streets you drive on are there because of a developer.
Developers have a right to earn a buck just as you do.
Without them we would not have any ball fields on which to play!!!!!!
Show 'em some LOVE!!!
:-)
Hey Thinker Welcome Back.
How were the fish biting?
Yeah developers are like a "disease'< its like we all have germs, we don't want to think about it and we don't have any control over it.
So we all have germs, they are only trouble when we get too many germs and they are out of control just like developers!!
We need to control our germs and our developers.
Developers don't want love, they want money!
Yes we all have the right to make money, these developers are just greedy in my opinion.
I hear they are building a mini condo building in your yard. lol
Honestly some of these builders would do ithat if they could
Do you doubt it?
Take Care
I'm not stupid. I know that my home and my neighborhood and the shops that I frequent were all built by developers. However, there is a difference between a responsible developer (large lot sizes, very little desert disturbed, appealing architecture that matches the surroundings) and a greedy developer (bulldoze the desert, displace all the wildlife, kill every tree in sight, replace it with an eyesore of a building, build houses just 12 feet apart with no shade because all the trees were destroyed, etc.)
Is it logical to clear all the trees in a place where temps reach triple digits in the summer? No shade for the house, just use more electricity to keep your A/C running all the time. Yeah, that's a much better idea! But that's the M.O. of the GREEDY developer. Illogical thought process, irresponsible behavior.
But of course you like developers. You're a real estate agent. You make money off of their developments.
