CREMATORIUM

At the Oro Valley Town Council meeting on the evening of Feb 7, 2007, many residents living in the neighborhood of Rancho Vistoso spoke in opposition to a motion passed by the Oro Valley Town Council on November 1, 2006 to allow a memorial chapel in their area. Little did they know that the chapel would include a crematorium!

It is intriguing that the agenda item, OV12.05.35, that was voted on was "A request for a development Plan for The Vistoso Memorial Chapel" with no reference to a Crematorium.

While I have no opinion on the pros
and cons of a crematoriums, I would
1. not want one in my immediate residential neighborhood.
2. I would probably resent the fact that no mention was made of said facility having a crematorium.
3. This is just another example of
Oro Valley's "done deal, don't blame me" excuse every time some members of the Town council try to ram through an unpopular item. Is there no recourse?

Putting a crematorium in any neighborhood, and certainly one where demographics trend toward those in the writer's age group (80), and in an area visited by those getting medical attention, is beyond our ability to make cogent editorial comment. We are totally stupified by this absolutely indefensible lack of sensitivity.
