Zev passed away on January 17, 2011, having reached his 72nd birthday and after a health battle that started the previous Thanksgiving.
Zev always wrote about what he though was right. Many of his words ring true today:
"Town has taken an issue and let special interests turn it into a hornets' nest," he commented in September, 2009. His hope was: "There are going to be 4 open seats in the upcoming election; once again the Citizens will have an opportunity to nullify contentious governance; then, perhaps, sanity might come to prevail."
In 2008 Zev wrote regarding then Council Member Terry Parrish: "He admits that [much of the money he receives for his campaigns is from 'developers' but that it is legal and okay because the donations are 'laundered' (my term) through individuals. He continues that he is a proponent of said developers for the benefit of Oro Valley. Terry, were you elected to represent the people of Oro Valley and beholden to represent ALL of us, or were you elected to act yourself out as a hired gun for the development clique that has inundated it? "
That was Zev. Fearless!
We know that, were Zev with us today, he'd be writing and commenting for the blog. He'd provide balance and fairness to our discussions. He would do so knowledgeably and respectfully.
Happy birthday Zev.
